dc.description.abstract | My thesis is a creative novella titled ‘Palumbo’. It follows the story of Detective Benjamin Love, a law enforcement officer struggling with the pressures of his job, deep in the throes of a drug addiction. The story takes place in the early 1990s, in a small fictional town in Southern Florida. After a series of gruesome murders take place at a local business park called Palumbo Enterprises, he is sent to Jetsonville to help catch the killer. He works with Han Nakamura, a detective from the Jetsonville Police Department. Though the two are from polar opposite worlds, they must overcome their differences and catch the killer before it is too late. The story will be around five chapters, and each chapter will rotate from the point of view of both Sam, the killer, and Detective Love. The story should be between sixty and eighty pages. Because it is a novella, it will cover the story in its entirety. This story will be a complete account of everything I have learned as an English major. It will cover the skills I have learned from my creative writing concentration, such as character development, how to write a compelling scene, and how to craft realistic characters in compelling situations. It will also involve a small level of research in police departments and active investigations. | en_US |
