Yom HaShoah 2002

Abstract

The Holocaust Center of the North Shore commemorates Yom HaShoah (Holocaust Remembrance Day) with a program held at Peabody Veterans Memorial High School, Peabody, Massachusetts. The video includes coverage of the student art on display at the event, the Survivors' Candlelighting Ceremony, Yom HaShoah Poem by Andi Vilnai and Sandy Weitz (in lieu of their mother, Holocaust survivor Sonia Weitz, who authored it), Sounding of the Shofar by Herb Belkin, Welcome by Dr. Robert McAndrews (Chair, Holocaust Center), Musical Selections by the Gordon College Women's Choir, Greetings by Mayor Michael Bonfanti (Peabody), Greetings by Debra Finkel (President, Women's Division of the Jewish Federation of the North Shore), Holocaust Service Award Presented to Herb Belkin by Harriet Tarnor Wacks (Director, Holocaust Center), Interfaith Service (Father John MacInnis, St. John the Baptist Church, Peabody; Reverend Joel Anderle, Community Covenant Church, Peabody; Rabbi Robert Goldstein; Temple Emanu-El, Andover; Cantor Sam Pessaroff, Temple Ner Tamid, Peabody), Keynote Presentation by Dr. Padraic O'Hare ("The Losses are Greater than the Numbers"), Singing of Hatikvah and the Star Spangled Banner.
