    Abstract
SV224 — Nelson Dionne Collection. View of the Shepard Mansion at 61 and 63 Lafayette Street (today 183 and 185 Lafayette Street due to street renumbering). A group of people, ostensibly the Shepard family, are visible posing in front of the home. Published by photographers J.W. & J.S. Moulton at 256 Essex Street, Salem, Mass., in "American Scenery," c. 1874. Labeled on the back with the date August 6, 1874. According to the directories and atlases, the home was owned and occupied by a member of the family until 1914, when the house was destroyed by that year's Great Fire of Salem. This depicted place was adjacent to the Buffum House depicted in SV018, also published by J.W. & J.S. Moulton.
