View of the lawn and non-extant main house at Kernwood, the estate of the Peabody family in North Salem, with a garden arrangement prominently displayed to the right. The estate was sold to become the Kernwood Country Club in 1914, and the Gothic mansion was razed in the mid-1950s in order to construct the current clubhouse. Published by G.M. Whipple & A.A. Smith, 243 Essex Street, Salem, Mass, as part of "Views of Salem, Mass., and Vicinity," and by J.W. & J.S. Moulton, c. 1873-74. View is the same as SV142.
